Farmers tend to be a conservative lot. The King, as was the Queen, is an important land owner who has for decades preached and practiced ecological/biological farming. The King is no fool and is acutely aware that not everyone in the kingdom can afford a free-range chicken at ₤11 a unit against an ordinary broiler chicken at ₤ 5. He has a respected, powerful and long-standing voice in the British farming community.
I suspect that as for popstars we want two things from our King, we want the dignity, and the aloofness which creates the separation of state and nation, that the crown brings to government, but we also love the daily drama/entertainment that popstars provide. To a certain extent, the Royal family does play this game too.
I thought that the King's coronation played mostly all the right notes. Like many Britons, I was disappointed that Prince Andrew still holds such a preeminent position within the Royal court. Like his nephew, he should have been banished. Prince Harry's life is somewhat of a tragedy, as the spare, he really has no role in the Royal family, and he was right to "bugger off to America". On the bright side, he is lucky enough to fall in love and retire from the royal play. I suspect that over the next few years, he will be able to channel his obvious talents, especially after all he has done with the Invictus games.
One thing that annoys me to no end is the behaviour of the Royal press. I mean does anyone really doubt that the Daily Mail is racist? Come on, they are the quintessential racist newspapers which use racist code and dog whistles daily. The worst part, everyone knows, and everyone plays the offended virgin...
Does anyone doubt for one minute that Queen Camila asked if Megan's baby would be black, of course, she did, everyone in the royal family did. Anyone who child marries outside their race will wonder and many, in unguarded moments, will ask that very question. Is right, of course not, but to think it will not happen, well that is simply idiotic.
There are three areas where the Royal court (not assigning responsibility to anyone in particular but...the buck always stops at the boss).
(1) Prince Andrew is still around. Reminding the entire country of his absolutely unacceptable behaviour as a man, a prince and a father. I was shocked to see him prominently at the funeral and the coronation.
(2) Prince Harry has held a grudge against the press his entire life, not without reason, and it is evident that the Royal court not only interfered but more than likely provided leads to the press. They should be held accountable.
(3) The meanness in removing security from Prince Harry for any visit to the UK by him and his family is effectively banishment. This is shameful behaviour. It makes the Royal family come across as mean, petty and cheap.
Aside from that, the King is doing a reasonable job. As a family, we listened to the King's Christmas Day address, and it was good with the right notes. Actually, I admire that the King financially cut off Prince Harry from the royal gravy train. It's good for the Kingdom, the King and the Prince.
However, pomp and circumstance are not enough, the lack of moral fibre, troubling attitudes and behaviour within the Royal court as if it was still in 1910 is unacceptable. Maybe Prince William will do a better job than his father, I wonder if he will have the opportunity.
Note: Its very late, and I have better things to do, I am a Royalist. I think that there should be a separation between the state and the nation. King or President. It doesn't matter.
