This was not the verdict either the Democrats or Republicans were expecting. The judge's instructions were complex in the case mainly because with 34 indictments (and really three crimes) it was easy for Trump to be found not guilty by some of the juries in some of the indictments.
The Republicans were banking on that it was patently unfair that the whole case was rigged. Because he could be convicted for different crimes.
What no one expected was a unanimous verdict on all 34 counts of criminal conspiracy! It is important to note that this was the least "important" case against Trump, but it is the only one that will occur before the election in November.
What the Democrats or Republicans think of all this is irrelevant. They were not going to change their minds, what is important are the independents. The question for voters will be can you vote for a man, who not only cheated on his wife, who then tried to hide it so that he could win an election, and also tried to hide the fact that he was buying the silence of his witness.
Can you support a man who engaged in anti-democratic activities even before he was elected and has since then promised more of the same? For Independents, it will be an almost impossible vote, as it was during the midterm elections (when none of this was decided in court).
This was the worst possible outcome for Trump because at the end of the day, he was able to make his case in front of 12 impartial Americans and he chose not to make his case. Every American is aware that for months Donald Trump bragged that he would testify, but he didn't instead he slept in court. Americans love their court system, especially the ones with a jury. This was a blow to Trump, but then again his defence was nothing. His only witness was an avowed liar, who tried to get hired by another liar to help Trump (seriously Robert Costello was attempting to be hired by Michael Cohen to screw him over and help Trump -- that was the only witness Trump brought to the proceedings).
