Politics: Sausage making

Donald Trump's electoral strategy is similar to his legal strategy, don't follow the process, abuse the process and fix the problem behind the scenes.  That is why he was so successful, surrounded by grifters who were betting the house, and the consequences of their actions are all part of the same show.  The disbarred lawyers "know" that when Trump is President they will get the big payoffs, although most of them who were semi-competent made sure to get paid upfront.   Only the idiots, such as Guliani gave advice on credit...that only gets you so far.

Politics is about money, it is also about money in the UK (don't let Labour make you think otherwise) and politics shares a lot of similarities with sausage making, "how can something so good have so many disgusting ingredients..."

Trump last week took it to a new level, he asked US oil executives for $1 billion in election money with a guarantee that he would reverse all of Biden's green energy laws.   The US oil industry seems ready to spend $1 billion on Trump (and it seems to have been working) so far, there are rumours that the oil companies are already drafting the President's executive orders -- they probably don't trust Trump and so want it on paper.

Honestly, it is refreshing that Trump broke this new taboo.   First was the "grab them by the pussy"  then was "I didn't sleep or know here", followed by doing absolutely nothing for four years.   Several times David Duke was received at the White House (aka the head of the Klu Klux Klan).  Before Trump, no leader of the GOP would have dared.  He named fundamentalist judges that got rid of Roe V Wade.   Now the GOP feels strong enough to propose FEDERAL legislation that would require EVERY pregnant woman to register with the government (I wish I was making this up).   The GOP fired its entire senior management and instead is working hard to ensure that THIS election will not be stolen (apparently to work for the new GOP you have to state that the 2020 elections were stolen).

What is interesting is that Trump was the catalyst and not the agent.   Trump seized what had until 2015 the subliminal Republican program, stood on America's real church steps (aka the Golden escalator in Trump Tower) and told the GOP that it was more than OK to be racist, it was OK to hate your neighbour, that abortion must be abolished and that freedom of expression has to be entirely for their side, and no one else.

The Republican Party of 2024 is the consequence of the decision of the 1960s -- when the Democrats introduced equality acts and abortion rights.   The US south which had been a Democratic stronghold became Republican.   The whispered message was there, it was always there, and it had grown stronger under Reagan and again under Bush II, but it was the election of Obama that crystallized the hatred and the vision that others were taking over "their Christian nation".

That's the bad news, here is the good news.  Trump has made enemies out of capital, US corporate interests have been kicked out of the GOP, and it shows because the Democrats are outfunding the GOP by 10:1.   That is the key, that is why Trump asked for $1 billion for the US oil sector.   That means there is an important part of the US electorate that is up for grabs, and you see it every day with the continued GOP primaries where Nikki Haley keeps on getting about 20% of GOP primary voters.   They are still republicans but will not support Donald Trump, at worst they will not vote, at best for the Democrats, they will vote for the Democrat ticket...

Spray painting Taylor Swift G650 aircraft (updated)

First, a bit of paint will not harm anyone.  These climate activities are going to learn two things in the next few days:  (1) Trespassing at an airport is a felony almost anywhere in the world.  That means criminal prosecution.   (2) removing paint from an aircraft is expensive.   So these climate activists are about to find out the reach of the British criminal system and it will not be pleasant, the UK has very strict laws about that, I would be surprised if cleaning the aircraft of all the paint will cost less than $100,000.     I am sure that when they planned (premeditation) this little show they had a very valid logic to doing this.  Tonight, they are probably realizing the depth of their troubles.   I understand that in the UK it's a minimum one-year jail sentence.    Also, good luck travelling with a criminal trespass charge against you.  I am relatively certain that the airline industry will ...

Farm; Half year performance

People appear to be genuinely curious. 2024 has been a record first half for the farm.  The addition of high tunnels has greatly impacted our revenues.   While we expected Q1 profits to be higher, it really was the second quarter that produced the goods.  The terrible weather has greatly impacted the production of high-end vegetables. Energy costs are now very stable and have become a fixed variable especially now that our bio digesters are fully dialled in.   Replacing some of our pre-dryer equipment was covered under warranty, and the new equipment is far better at dealing with gas moisture, and much better steel!   Our diesel costs are what they are! Our biologist and ecologist devised a new planting plan for our high tunnels that greatly reduced pests, especially slugs.   We have seen a 90% decline in sluggs this year, resulting in better yields.   It seems that several plants act as natural repelants and if planted c...

Britain, France and Egypt

The voters realize now that the Conservative Praty desire to return to 19th-century dominance has driven its hatred of the EU.  The voters realize now that departure from the EU has accelerated Britain's decline and may soon make it irrelevant.  At best it will have to kiss American arses to maintain its standing.  For this, the conservatives were punished.  The decline of Britain was inevitable, competition from Frankfurt and Germany in Finance was bound to grow.  The core of Europe (aka Germany) is aging quickly Macron seems to be winning his bet, the left alliance that won the legislative elections will not remain united for long, since they disagree on about everything.   The Far right though it was about to assume power is once again relegated to the back of the bus.   It may draw its own conclusions, but not all of these are good for France.  The far-right has won nearly 1/3rd of the electorate, that is not something to be ig...
