The world is our oyster, so taking a winter holiday is on the cards. Every other year with our children we would go skiing in France or Italy. We could drive (more or less) and it was a lot of fun.
This year we are going skiing but not in Europe. First, and I found this out last night, there's no snow this year. The base is still less than 18 inches.
North America is different; out in the Western US they've gotten nearly two meters of snow, and get daily snow, and the temperature is perfect. So that's it. We are flying out on the 13th of January and we will be away for two weeks. A few days in San Francisco on the way there.
Amazing, 2 meters of snow or 50 cm...
When Eurodisney opened in the 1990s British Airways offered two packages: one week at Eurodisney or two weeks in Florida and a week at Disneyland, the kicker the price was the same...Flying to San Francisco (visit family members) and then to Colorado looks like a good bet. Will it be more expensive, of course, but still we are flying to America.
Note: Thanks for all the AirBnB suggestions for Vail, but we have good friends who own a condo and are renting it to us. It's a little too large for us (five bedrooms) but it's a ski-in ski-out so it was hard to resist. Only two of us, the kids are either at school, honeymoon or working hard. It has its own sauna and hot tub and access to an outdoor pool should we fancy that...
Note2: for those who wonder, we use a taxi service directly to Heathrow... it's almost 3 hours but it cannot be helped. The other option is to fly to Amsterdam, which is the wrong direction. Anyway, it's an 11 hour flight. We got a bargain first class for the price of business class...why not!
