Spring is really not cooperating this year. February has been cold and wet and so far, March too has been cold, today the high will be 8c (47F) and it's been the same for weeks now. At least today it's kind of sunny and the farm is drying a little bit. Today was the first day where tractors could go out and spread compost on the farm. It has been accumulating for the entire month of February and part of January. In all today nearly 40 lorryloads were spread. We are planting wheat this year on about 600 acres of land, and our neighbour is planting Spring wheat, we are getting close to the end of planting season, and our neighbour has almost completely planted his field and expects to start planting either tomorrow or Saturday.
This week, we completed spreading poly4 on the grass fields, not uncommon, because we extracted all the nutrients by cutting and picking the grass up for bales.
In other news, we have wild pigs on the property no not really, the last wild pig in East Anglia was killed in 2009, what we have is an escape. Our pig forewoman caught it around lunchtime, she took some fruits and molasse and he was quickly re-integrated into the team from which he had escaped. When the tractor operator radioed that he had seen a while pig, our forewoman already knew what had happened. She said that it's unusual for pigs to escape, they are very family-driven and root in relatively small areas. It is very strange because we hardly ever see the pigs, and never hear them, as they stay in the forest.
Anyway, an ordinary Thursday.
